New Year!  2001 is the year of Birds of a Feather!

Our website is now being hosted by a different company and the technical difficulties we have been experiencing should be resolved Thank you again for your patience. Please tell your friends to visit our website and sign up for the mailing list!  We currently have over 600 names of women interested in more information as Birds of a Feather moves forward and becomes a reality! The list is confidential and used only to send newsletters about "Birds". We also appreciate your feedback about the project and/or the website.  Please email or call us on our toll free number with your comments.

My apologies for not updating the news for such a long period of time and for any technical difficulties you may have recently experienced with our website. Unfortunately, our website host switched servers in December and all the "bugs" have not been worked out yet.  If you have signed up to be on our mailing list during December, we did not receive your information since that page was not working properly and still is not fixed (host is on vacation). We will fix this page as soon as possible and apologize for any inconvenience.  Please check back in a few days. We did receive all of the housing surveys and wish to thank you for participating in our study.

We are moving forward even if it's at a snail's pace. Our new hydrologist needs another month to complete his testing and write his report before we can appear before the San Miguel County Commissioners for preliminary approval.  We are attempting to address each and every issue and concern regarding water supply, so that the County Commissioners and future residents can rest assured that we have an adequate long-term (40+ years) water supply for the community.

We decided to bypass the Planning and Zoning meeting tentatively scheduled for September 21 and go directly to our meeting with the County Commissioners in late October or early November. It has become evident that the Planning & Zoning Board is attempting to delay the project despite the fact that we have met all the State and County regulations for our proposed project.  Keep sending your positive thoughts and energy and we will get the approval we need to go forward.

Yes, we're still alive and well!  We apologize for the lengthy time between updates and very much appreciate your patience with this process. I have said from the beginning that this project was going to teach me patience!!

Unfortunately, the County has delayed us yet again! Apparently this is not unusual and we have been told that if we are able to receive approval in nine months, we should be thrilled!

We received a letter from San Miguel County today telling us that all of the State agencies have responded favorably to our subdivision proposal! The San Miguel County Planning and Zoning Commission will now review the State opinions and make findings of fact and a recommendation for approval or disapproval at their meeting on July 27. The County Commissioners will then review the preliminary plat application and the opinions of the State agencies and the Planning and Zoning Commission findings and will either approve; approve with conditions, or disapprove the plan at the public hearing scheduled for August 8. We have every reason to believe that we will be approved with a few conditions attached. Then we must respond to the conditions, have engineers design the roads, plan well locations, and have the utility companies sign off on our plan. If all goes well, we should receive final approval from the County by September or October.

Lots of things have happened since our last update. There have been two large wildfires in New Mexico recently. The first fire in Los Alamos burned thousands of acres of forestland and left many people homeless. The second fire started about six miles northeast of Pecos and was contained after burning 26,000 acres of forestland.  Since our property is three miles east of Pecos, we were extremely concerned when we first heard the news.

Our Santa Fe trip this past week was fabulous! I had the opportunity of meeting several women from across the country visiting the land for Birds' new community! We hiked and picnicked and even received several indications of interest in purchasing lots in the community! It was exciting to share the land with some future residents and guests.  We will be adding new pictures of the land and our visitors in the very near future!  We also took an afternoon off of work and went white-water rafting on the Rio Grande River with a couple of friends and had a great time!

There have been a lot of questions, but the 2 most often asked are, when and how much. We will strive to answer them here.

The two questions we have been asked most often are:

Bonnie and Charles visited MicroSepTec, Inc. in Los Angeles in April to check out their new environmentally friendly and cost-effective on-site waste water treatment system for residential and commercial applications. This system safely eliminates sludge and reduces harmful nitrates to an environmentally acceptable level. Disinfected residual water can be utilized for landscape irrigation or recycled into groundwater aquifers.
