The trip to Santa Fe

Our Santa Fe trip this past week was fabulous! I had the opportunity of meeting several women from across the country visiting the land for Birds' new community! We hiked and picnicked and even received several indications of interest in purchasing lots in the community! It was exciting to share the land with some future residents and guests.  We will be adding new pictures of the land and our visitors in the very near future!  We also took an afternoon off of work and went white-water rafting on the Rio Grande River with a couple of friends and had a great time!

The only things that dampened our spirits were the terrible fire in Los Alamos that left many people homeless and thousands of acres of forestland burned to the ground! And the planning and zoning committee of San Miguel County also tabled our project for yet another month. That seems like a pretty small thing compared to the tragedy of the fire and its destruction!

Apparently, the delay occurred because all of the State agencies had not yet responded to our master plan submittal. Technically, the agencies should have responded within 30 days, however, in the real world, things aren't always so black and white! We remain positive and will spend the time keeping in touch with the State agencies to answer their questions and keep the process moving forward.

We will also be working with the builder we have selected to join the Birds' team, Archetypes, Inc. of Santa Fe, to price lots and casitas (twin homes) and to modify the casita plans to allow for straw bale construction, if desired. Scott Irving of Archetypes has a lot of experience with straw bale construction and even gives seminars about the technique and advantages! He also uses more traditional building methods such as wood frame construction. We are looking forward to working with Scott and his team to help make the dream of Birds' community a reality!

We are still hoping to have prices available for some of the lots and casitas by June 13. Check out the Development Team section of the website for more about Archetypes, Inc. and the Home Design section for more about the benefits of straw bale construction!
