Green in the Spring

Becky and Renee's Wedding

Ahhhhh... spring in New Mexico!  Everything is "greening up" and some of our wildflowers are even beginning to pop up.  The hummingbirds have been back for almost a month now, as well as some warblers and grosbeaks. Love to see lots of birds building their nests and bathing in my bird baths... a welcome distraction from work!

Since New Mexico legalized gay/lesbian marriage in December of 2013, a couple of our lot owners, Becky & Renee, recently chose to get married here.  They currently live in a state that has not legalized same-sex marriage, so it only made sense to marry where they will be living in the near future.  They chose a lovely winery in Albuquerque for the ceremony and followed with a fabulous dinner celebration at Hotel Andaluz with friends and family.  They shared with me that everybody in NM, from the county clerk to florists, hotel staff and even other guests at the winery seemed genuinely happy for them and helped make their special day even more wonderful!

During the past month, I have been busy getting proposals from builders for our newest floor plan of approximately 990 square feet... the "Little House". I'm hoping that this charming home will appeal to many people interested in joining our community... from singles, to couples wishing to down-size or even for a vacation or second home. The Little House can be built on any one of our four 1/4 acre lots in Phase I (lots 1, 2, 3, 4) or on a few of our smaller lots in Phase II. They are all beautiful lots with large pine trees and views of mountains and/or meadows. I'm still waiting for a few more clarifications of the pricing, but should have a pretty good idea of the price for the Little House very soon. Since there are a very limited number of lots available for this floor plan, if you are interested, please contact me for details as soon as possible.

I'm also pleased to share information about a newly published book about niche retirement communities that even includes LGBT communities. The book is called With a Little Help from Our Friends--Creating Community as We Grow Older, by Beth Baker. I was interviewed, as well as a couple of our residents... Ellen & Michael. It is interesting and informative. Check it out here; http://www.reuters.com/article/2014/04/08/us-column-miller-retirementcommunities-idUSBREA3716120140408

I'm looking forward to giving many tours of our community this summer, so if you are in the area or want to learn more about our magical community, please call or write to schedule a time to talk or visit.
