Constructing Bonnie's EcoNest

I've had many people ask why there haven't been any recent photos added to "Constructing Bonnie's EcoNest" of the photo tour page. Almost all of the work being done to my "nest" in the past month or so has been inside... framing interior walls and electrical wiring... not very good picture material! They will be applying stucco to my garage and courtyard walls next week and a metal roof on my house, guest house and garage should follow soon. So, I should be starting to post more pictures very soon! Thanks for your continued interest in the community and my EcoNest progress! Catherine & Jan's (lot 5) slab was poured a few days ago and the timberframe for their EcoNest was erected yesterday! The workshop to build their straw/clay walls will be held next week.

We will be starting to build two casitas and one single-family home in the next few weeks! So far, everyone building has chosen some alternative form (instead of stick frame)of wall system for their homes. EcoNests use straw/clay for walls and the first two casitas built will have walls constructed from ICF (insulated concrete form). There is more information about the insulating and healthful qualities of these building materials on our website.

There seems to be lots of interest in "niche retirement communities" these days... especially GLBT communities. I have been interviewed recently by journalists from USA Today, Associated Press and The New York Times. The next article is scheduled to appear in the Keys Magazine in the Sunday edition of the New York Times on September 10, 2006. There are links to older articles on the bottom of this page and to more recent articles on the top of this page... check them out to learn more about where the existing communities are currently located and plans for future communities!

There is only one lot left in Phase I... lot 12! It is an extremely beautiful one+ acre lot with magnificent views of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains. A recent visitor described lot 12 as "park like"! This is your last opportunity to buy a fabulous lot in Phase I at 2003 prices! Phase II lots will not be available for another year or more.
