Gay & Lesbian Retirement Community | Birds of a Feather Community in Pecos, NM 87552

Fall 2013 Lot & Home Options

Birds of a Feather is a special, magical place–your dream come true!  Our community, founded in 2004, is a gay and lesbian community like no other in the world located in the “Land of Enchantment”, sunny Northern New Mexico.

Our LGBT community began as a vision by its founder, Bonnie McGowan, to create a thoughtful community development as a safe haven for people of like minds. Our community is made up of people who care about environmentally responsible living; an active and healthy lifestyle; and forming strong social connections when we need them most–as we are aging.

We are currently offering a few fabulous re-sale lots in Phase I, as well as several of our newly created lots in Phase II, which are available for our floorplans or your custom designed home to be built by one of our approved builders. All of our 1/4 to 3 acre lots are pine-forested and most have magnificent views!  Lot pricing starts at $44,900 with all underground utilities (water, telephone, electric to the lot line).  High speed internet currently available by wireless or satellite service.  DSL coming soon.

Most of our current community residents and lot owners (ages 45 & up) are planning on "aging in place", ie: staying in their homes as they age. Our homes are designed with aging in mind and our community supports staying physically fit and active. Our residents enjoy hiking on our 140-acre property, as well as gathering to share meals, celebrate birthdays and holidays, playing games or golfing and traveling together. Visit our "meet your neighbor" page to see photos of current and future residents and their homes, as well as read what they have to say about living at Birds of a Feather!

"Good to be Green!" Our aging populations and the "green movement" are two mega-trends for the 21st century, driving demand for "aging in place" and eco-friendly home design. Combining these approaches makes good sense for a second or retirement home that is easy to live in, healthy, and super energy efficient!

Birds of a Feather is now offering a fabulous energy-efficient, architect designed floor plan which we are calling "Los Nidos" meaning the nests! There are two sizes to choose from... 1275 and 1425 sq. ft. and both have two bedrooms, two baths, and an open floorplan.  The larger size includes an office/den. You choose your favorite homesite, floor plan and finishes and take up to five years to build!

Check out our Los Nidos page for pricing, floor plans, elevations and more detailed information!

You also have the option if you prefer, to design a custom designed home or EcoNest. You may also choose from our architect designed southwestern style "casita" floor plans or our newly offered “Little House” floor plan of about 960 sq. ft... perfect for LGBT retirement or a second-home get-a-way! Check out all of our housing options!

Living in our community includes fabulous neighbors, access to many acres of adjoining private property conserved as green space with trails for walking/hiking, as well as a community center proposed for the future.

Interest rates are at historic lows and our local banks have great lot and construction financing available for qualified buyers. Please call us for more information or to reserve your homesite in our community today!
