Casitas, EcoNests, Los Nidos, Single-Family Homes and our newest "Little House"Homes at Birds of a Feather LGBT community | pre-designed 1620 sq. ft. casitas

Casitas, designed by David Andersen, a renowned architect and authority on designing sustainable, conservation-focused plans for ecotourism, offer exceptional quality and value. Casitas are grouped in twos, but each home is on its own lot with its own driveway and walkway between the garages.

Casitas are 1620 sq. ft. and feature a large master bedroom, a second bedroom or office/studio, two baths, fireplace, double car garage and walled private courtyard in front. Many options and upgrades are also available for customizing the interior of your casita.

Los Nidos artist rendering Los Nidos or "the nests" are available in either our 1275 or 1425 sq. ft. architect-designed floor plans. You may also choose a flat-roof Pueblo style or a pitched-roof Northern New Mexico style (image on our home page). Both homes have two bedrooms, two baths, fireplace, portal, double car garage and the larger floor plan includes an office/den. Our nests may be feathered with energy efficient and eco-friendly materials throughout. Options and upgrades are available to customize your home.

Artist's rendering of "little home"

This is an artist's rendering of our proposed architect designed smaller home. The floor-plan consists of one bedroom, guest/office, 2 baths, fireplace, garage and is planned to be around 990 heated square feet. (floor plan shows 960 sq. ft., but it is 990 sq. ft.)

EcoNests, designed by Paula Baker-Laporte, are simple, elegant, and healthful handcrafted dwellings that welcome owner participation in their construction. They are the product of a design/build collaboration with Robert Laporte, a renowned timber framer and natural house building teacher and his wife, Paula Baker Laporte, an architect, baubiologist and author specializing in healthy ecological design. EcoNests utilize natural building techniques including: timber framing, straw/clay walls, earth plastering, and natural, non-toxic finishes throughout.

These homes are healthy, energy efficient and built to last. Basic models range from 1200 to 2500 square feet and are easily adaptable to individual needs and budgets.

More interior and exterior pictures of Bonnie's EcoNest are available in our photo gallery.

EcoNest interior | Birds of a Feather Community homes Single family homes may be custom designed or you may choose from one of our preferred builders' stock floor plans. Homes may be from 1000 to 3000 square feet in size. All designs must be approved by our Design Review Committee.

Prices to build the different types of homes in our community will vary greatly depending on the type of building materials chosen, the size of the home, and interior finishes chosen. As of March 2023, pricing begins at approximately $350 per "total under roof" square footage and goes up from there depending on your choice of building material and finishes. EcoNests tend to run a bit more than standard construction because of the higher cost of all natural materials used.
