Birds of a Feather

Blog

I can't believe that its been a few months since I've updated my blog. I've been very busy answering inquiries about our community and doing many tours.  Lot sales are picking up again after a lull during the recession... in the past year, I've sold three of our Phase II Hawk's Landing lots and one of our Phase I re-sale lots.

Many of you have asked about purchasing an existing home in our community.  We currently have our first home offered for sale... one of our casita floor plans.

I’m asking my visitors to respond to this question, as I have changed my blog format to include a place to comment on my news and updates. I would really appreciate your help in testing it. I’m also very interested, of course, in hearing your thoughts about LGBT community and what that means to each of you, as Birds of a Feather is still growing and developing!

Becky and Renee's Wedding

Ahhhhh... spring in New Mexico!  Everything is "greening up" and some of our wildflowers are even beginning to pop up.  The hummingbirds have been back for almost a month now, as well as some warblers and grosbeaks. Love to see lots of birds building their nests and bathing in my bird baths... a welcome distraction from work!

Since New Mexico legalized gay/lesbian marriage in December of 2013, a couple of our lot owners, Becky & Renee, recently chose to get married here.  They currently live in a state that has not legalized same-sex marriage, so it only made sense to marry where they will be living in the near future.  They chose a lovely winery in Albuquerque for the ceremony and followed with a fabulous dinner celebration at Hotel Andaluz with friends and family.  They shared with me that everybody in NM, from the county clerk to florists, hotel staff and even other guests at the winery seemed genuinely happy for them and helped make their special day even more wonderful!

Belated wishes for a very happy new year in 2014!

New Mexico ended 2013 with our Supreme Court legalizing same sex marriages in December.  Must admit that I didn't think that I would see same sex marriages happen in my lifetime, let alone in (17) ? states so far.  I'm not even sure that number is correct, as a few other states have had federal judges decide to overturn bans on same sex marriages in their states and appeals are pending.  Seems like this issue will eventually be decided by the United States Supreme Court.
